How many categories of admissions are made in KVS?
Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) is a government of India-operated school that provides equality of education and its fees are affordable for a maximum of parents. However, admission is not easy for all children because there are different rules for different categories of people. Let us understand the main 5 categories of KV admission.
1. Category I: Children of Central Government Employees and Ex-Servicemen: –
Employees who work under the central government & their jobs are transferred or not transferred. Ex-servicemen (died or alive): Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force.
2. Category II: For People Who Work with the Central Government under
Autonomous Bodies, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs() like banking, phone, or transport, and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) i.e. some schools, universities, or colleges that are under the central government.
3. Category III: State Government Employees
Employees who work under the State government & their jobs are transferred or not transferred like police staff, and teachers.
4. Category IV: This Category has more groups of people:
- Children of Central Government employees are deputed to other countries for work.
- Children of employees who are working for companies or colleges that are linked to State Governments.
- Children of Members of Parliament ( MPs)
- Children of employees who are working at Embassies or High Commissions (in India or other countries)
5. Category V: Project Group: Kendriya Vidyalayas that are run by some companies or colleges (Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) or Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs)
- Children of project employees who are currently working or retired.
- Children of Employees working on some long-term research projects that are undertaken by PSUs /IHLs
Please note that in admission process only categories do not matter. Other things are also an important aspect that affect the admission process, like
- School-wise seat availability
- How far is the school from home
- If your Sibling is studying in that school, it can help you with admission.
Also, each category has sub-categories and has some specific criteria for admission.Reservations SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer), Differently Abled (DA), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as per rules.

There is some Category exemption in fee for
- Girls from class I to XII
- Students from SC/ST groups
- Children of people who work for Kendriya Vidyalaya

- Students from EWS/BPL groups who joined under RTE Act

Kendriya Vidyalaya Fees Payment Dates
Parents have to pay the fee of their wards from the 1st to the 15th in particular calendar months, otherwise, after the 15th they need to pay late fee.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Fees Payment Modes
- Online through the official website: kvsangathan.nic.in
- Internet banking from the Union Bank of India portal: https://epay.unionbankofindia.co.in/kvfee/. (15-digit unique student ID and Date of birth are required to make payment.
- For offline fee payment:- Visit the branch of Union Bank of India with the KV fees challan.
What is VVN in Kendriya Vidyalaya?
VVN means Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi . It is a School Development Fund. Along with regular fees Students of KVs have to pay VVN every month. This VVN fee is different for each class and category of student. But if any student comes from economy weak background, they do not have to pay VVN
Kendriya Vidyalaya schools use this VVN fund to pay for the like electricity, water, security, furniture, books, etc. Also VVN fund is used for extra activities, tours, competitions, etc. for the students.
